Treasures in a Cornfield | Steamboat Arabia Museum

Revisiting the cornfield where they found and excavated steamboat Arabia in 1988-89, holding the captain's wheel from left to right are: Jerry Mackey, Greg, David and Bob Hawley. The boat loaded with over 200 tons of frontier cargo sank suddenly in the Missouri River in 1856 after striking a submerged tree. All 130 persons survived. The largest pre-Civil War artifact collection in the world has been preserved and is on display at the Arabia Steamboat Museum. www.1856.com
